The Maple Leafs are hoping that the addition of Samsonov will help to stabilize the most important position in hockey.

“It’s nice to have some insurance back there,” said Matt Murray. “I’m looking forward to working with him.”

The Maple Leafs are hoping that Murray and Samsonov can form a solid goaltending tandem that can help lead the team to success this season. “We’re excited to have both of them,” said Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. “They’re two very good goaltenders.”

The Maple Leafs hope that Murray-Samsonov will stabilize hockey’s most important position. “It was a little bit weird at first,” Samsonov said of being in the same room as his former Washington Capitals teammate. “But it’s good.”

Murray, who was acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins last month, is still getting acclimated to his new surroundings. “I’m just trying to take it all in,” he said. “It’s a new city, a new team. I’m just trying to get comfortable.”

The two goaltenders are expected to share the net this season, with Murray getting the lion’s share of the starts. “We’re both competitive guys,” Murray said. “We want to play. But we also want what’s best for the team. We’ll see how it goes.”

The Maple Leafs are banking on Murray and Samsonov to solidify a position that has been a source of instability in recent years. “It’s a big season for both of them,” said head coach Sheldon Keefe. “They both have a lot to prove. We’re confident in both of them.”

The Maple Leafs open the regular season on January 13th against the Montreal Canadiens.

Only time will tell if Samsonov and Murray can be the answer in net for the Maple Leafs, but the team is certainly hopeful that they can be.
