NHL 2023 is no ordinary season, with an unprecedented number of close games and one-goal victories. That’s why we’re taking a look at the NHL’s best and worst goals of the week.

First up, the best. This week was highlighted by some incredible plays from around the league, including this beauty from New Jersey Devils forward Nico Hischier.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the third period, Hischier snuck one past New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to give his team a crucial 3-2 lead. The NHL’s 2023 season has already seen some impressive performances from Hischier, and this goal was no exception.

On the other end of the spectrum, we look at the NHL’s worst goal of the week. This one came courtesy of Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin, who fired an uncharacteristically sloppy shot into his own net while trying to clear the puck away from danger in a tie game against the Colorado Avalanche. The embarrassing play cost his team the game, and made it clear that NHL 2023 is no ordinary season.

With so many close games and exciting finishes, NHL 2023 is sure to be an unforgettable one. Let’s hope we see more of these spectacular goals - and fewer own-goals like Seguin’s - in the coming weeks.

Who will score NHL 2023’s best and worst goals in the weeks to come? Stay tuned to find out!
